The Delia Project (#44): Classic Quiche Lorraine

The Delia Smith Project: Classic Quiche Lorraine

Bacon. Cheese. Eggs. Double cream. Could it be any simpler?

The Delia Smith Project: Classic Quiche Lorraine

There is the pastry to make as well, of course, but that’s just a matter of throwing flour, lard, butter, salt and water into a bowl and giving it a quick mix. Not really worth buying it for 5 minutes of effort.

I’ve never made quiche with double cream before and it tastes amazingly… indulgent. It was gobbled up by everyone at dinner time – except Munchkin #1 who suddenly declared that she doesn’t want to eat any meat for the rest of the week (?) – and I finished the leftovers for lunch today. My body is not a fan of cream and I might be cursing the quiche tomorrow, but I’ll take the rap.

Has anyone tried a dairy-free quiche? I came across this recipe on Gluten Free Mom: Gluten and Casein Free Quiche. There are some interesting tips about using ume plum vinegar and nutritional yeast to get that cheese flavour.
